Anticipation
In life there are things we can’t wait to happen and things we dread happening. Going to the doctor; I, like most people, dread doing. But when my birthday rolls around, I am very excited. We all have certain fears that we don’t want to be enacted. We dread the start of a new school year; but can’t wait for the last day of school. We don’t want moving day to come; but visiting old friends can’t come soon enough.
In some rare instances, the things we can’t wait for and the things we can are one and the same. We can’t wait to grow up and move out of the house and be on our own, but we are also dreading the responsibility.
As Christians we have much to look forward to when we die. But if I am being honest, I have always been afraid of dying. I am scared of what comes next. How can you just not be here anymore? But we have a glorious Heaven to look forward to. When we die, we get to meet our Father and be with the ones we love. That is what we have to look forward to and that is what we should anticipate every day.
It is hard to wait for any period of time for something that you are very excited for. It is also awful to have something you don’t look forward to sneak up on you. But we can look forward to the day we get to Heaven without being afraid of it sneaking up on us. We just have to anticipate it.
